Myin Ka is a small village of about 500 people situated in the valley 2
miles away from Kalaw, Northern Shan State. The villagers are the
highlanders called Taung Yoe Tribe. They live on farming different
vegetables: cabbage, chayote, paddy, cauliflowers and squash.
Our travelers visit this village to experience the way of life of the
villagers. At the same time, our travelers are keen on supporting the
local community in terms of donating to the village primary school. That
school is educating 47 students with 4 teachers.
What We Have Done so far!
As this is in a remote area, the government does not support much.
Students have to study in the poorly-built building without any
partition between the classrooms. The toilets that 47 students had been
using were in very poor condition and impacted the health of the school
kids. GCF has supported two Asian style toilets and now the school kids
are happy to use them with proper sanitary management by the lead of
teachers.
Our travelers and trip leaders also witnessed that the school building’s roof and the ceiling are in very bad condition. As
it rains so much in the rainy season in the region, the school kids
are difficult to learn in the safe environment. Sometimes, they miss
their classroom studies due to heavy rain. The Grand Circle Foundation
has decided to support for the renovation of roof and ceiling.
Now, the students are happy to learn with the better environment and the
teachers and the parents are so pleased with that. Great thanks go to
our generous American travelers who are always ready to support the
locals’ well-being to change peoples lives.
